Hutch Windibank

ハッチ・ウィンデバンク

Age: 48
Gender: Male
Occupation: Pawnbroker

Owner of Hutch's pawn shop on Baker Street. Appears in DGS-5.

Personality: Hutch believes in the importance of customers over all, and goes madly out of his way to accomodate them - even if he does occasionally seem vexed by Holmes' eccentricites. Though he may seem cowardly, at least some of his bluster is genuine.

Misc Facts: Hutch's appearance is based off of that of Jabez Wilson, a pawnbroker in the Holmes story "The Red-Headed League", and seems to have particular basis in Roger Hammond's interpretation in the 1985 TV adaptation.

Friends and Family: None mentioned, but Holmes is a frequent client.

Name Origin:
Japanese: Hacchi comes from hachi (八), “eight”. A pawnshop in Japanese is shichiya (質屋), and when written as 七, shichi means “seven” (the same pun is used in the Japaense version of Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney). Windibank comes from the Holmes story "A Case of Identity". (Credit to Ash)

Background: Windibank is a well-liked pawnbroker on Baker Street, who Holmes frequently entrusts with all manner of objects to hang on to.

Egg Benedict

エッグ・ベネディクト

Age: 27
Gender: Male
Occupation: Telegram operator

A mysterious, upper-class man who appears before Ryuunosuke and friends early in episode five, and a witness therein.

Personality: Egg clearly believes himself to be a member of upper society, and has little patience for those he views as wasting his time. He also has a particular focus on acheiving his goals - whatever they may be at a given moment.

Misc Facts: Egg shares a motion capture actor with Barok.

Friends and Family: Unknown.

Spoiler: DGS-5
Son of "Thrice-Fired" Morta Milverton, and old friend of Nemmy and Tully Tinpillar.

Name Origin:
Japanese: From "eggs benedict". He's not really fooling anybody with it.

Spoiler: DGS-5
His assumed surname, "Crogrey", comes from a portmanteau of "kuro" (black) and "grey". His birth surname, Milverton, comes from the Holmes story "The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton", and also provides part of his first name (vert/bert).

Background:
Spoiler: DGS-5
"Egg Benedict" is nothing but an alias for Rubert Crogrey - born Rubert Milverton. Crogrey was born the child of a poor bricklayer, Morta, and came to resent his lot in life. He studied and worked his way into college and became a telegram operator, cutting all ties with his father in the process.

A few months before DGS, Crogrey was approached by Cosney Megundal, who offered a deal: if Crogrey would tap the British government's telegrams and pass them along to Megundal, he could make it worth Crogrey's while. Crogrey agreed, and to record the messages he returned to his father Morta and asked him to create a pair of special disks that, when played in a certain music box, would play the morse code of the telegrams. Morta agreed, but was suspicious.

The first transaction with Megundal went well, but when it came time to trade for the second disk, Morta insisted on going in his son's place. Morta and Megundal made the trade in a carriage, but something went wrong and Megundal fatally stabbed him (DGS-3). Crogrey was enraged to hear this, and knowing Megundal would use his connections to get a not-guilty verdict, decided to take matters into his own hands. He paid off the bailiffs at the Old Bailey and posed as one of them during Megundal's trial. When Megundal was found innocent, Crogrey, still in disguise, asked him to an "investigation" of the carriage, which had been brought to court. Then he locked Megundal inside and set it alight, killing him.

Unfortunately for Crogrey, the second disc was never recovered. He carried out his own investigation and learned that it was likely being held at a pawn store for a girl (Gina) who Megundal had intimidated into helping him. He trailed Gina there and tried to bluff his way into getting the disc, but was interrupted by Holmes and, later, Gregson. Knowing that Gregson was after the stolen state secrets, he reached out to his old acquaintances, Nemmy and Tully, and plotted to break into the store that night to steal back the music box.
