A Word about the Go-Nintendo Apollo Justice Rumours.

Some of you have probably seen this article and are wondering if there will be no sequel to Apollo Justice. Well, here at CR we think that it's untrue. For a start, the translation of the article itself is incorrect according to DeMatador.

DeMatador wrote:
GoNintendo's report is mistranslated. The original article actually says that he considered the Ace Attorney series done with "Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney", but that the fans are making him reconsider. Textually, he says that "the fans' acclaim are making me stop and think about a series I considered finished." He then says that he really likes the Ghost Trick experience (hinting, maybe, that he wants to continue that series), but that the fans' reaction to Ace Attorney are making him think everything through. He actually asks the reporter "what should I do?", as in "should I continue with Ghost Trick or with Ace Attorney?".

So that already casts doubt on this. But, even more convincing than that, Shu Takumi isn't part of the series anymore! As Croik pointed out:

Croik wrote:
Takumi is, unless we hear otherwise, not working on Ace Attorney anymore. This isn't entirely new news, since he didn't work on AAI either. If Ghost Trick does well enough he may make that his new series, or may do something else. But AA is already in the hands of another team.

After AAI came out Eshiro said he was interested in doing another Investigations game someday, and also that he expressed interest in working on GS5. Neither game has been confirmed but the important part is, no one has ever said that the Ace Attorney series is being dropped.

And most importantly, even if they did, it's not like CR would close up or disappear, don't worry.

So there we go. Consider it debunked. Hopefully this piece of news can catch the attention of the news sites and nip this rumour in the bud before it becomes widespread.

More Last Window EU info + boxart

Image

Nintendo has sent out a press release about Last Window:

Nintendo of Europe wrote:
15th July 2010 – Love film noir? Love mystery novels, but want influence over the plot? Get your detective head on for Last Window: The Secret of Cape West which launches exclusively on the Nintendo DS family of consoles on 17th September 2010. Those familiar with Hotel Dusk: Room 215 on Nintendo DS will remember Kyle Hyde - the dark and mysterious character who now returns in Last Window: The Secret of Cape West for another quest to discover the truth.

Last Window is a thrilling and challenging interactive novel packed with hidden mysteries which players must unravel one piece at a time. Just like a great book, players will not only need to hold the Nintendo DS vertically, they will find the ever-twisting storyline so captivating they’ll not want to put it down.

That, however, is where the similarities end – here you can actually influence how the story develops! Decisions you make throughout the game will alter Kyle’s journey and result in different outcomes in the storyline.

Every time the player completes a chapter of the in-game novel Last Window, this episode is adapted into text form to be read at anytime, meaning you not only get to enjoy the captivating gameplay, but a great novel at the same time! The novel also acts as a hint section, directing players to certain characters should they have missed a clue or conversation.

Set in Los Angeles in 1980, a year after the events in Hotel Dusk: Room 215, the story follows the investigation of Kyle Hyde, a former police officer, as he attempts to solve a mystery involving his father's murder and secretive past. Knowledge of Hotel Dusk: Room 215 is not essential for you to help Kyle crack the mystery behind Cape West, the former hotel which is now his apartment building.

With beautifully sketched, fully rendered 3D environments, plus easy-to-use Touch Screen controls for navigating environments and controlling characters, it is easy to lose yourself in this story. You won’t be prompted, but why not try using the Nintendo DS in-built microphone to solve some of the mysteries? Jazz fans will also be pleased to hear that Kyle shares your passion – enjoy his favourite music on the Juke Box at any time you like.

While this game is packed with clues, it will test the keenest puzzle solver. Think Professor Layton puzzle-solving, immersed within a great and rich film noir-esque story... and make sure you look out for extra clues in your game packaging manual...

So get ready to uncover the mystery of the year as Last Window: The Secret of Cape West launches exclusively on the Nintendo DS family of consoles on 17th September 2010.

The 'Last Window' in-game novel seems to have been retained in the translation.

Last Window localization confirmed!

Image

To the relief of, well, pretty much everyone on CR, Last Window is getting a localization!!! :keiko:
Out in Europe on September 17, it will be released under the name "Last Window: The Secret of Cape West"

Source Source 2

This is amazing news that we honestly did not expect to see. As we covered two months ago, CiNG, the developers of Hotel Dusk, filed for Bankruptcy. Since then, we haven't heard anything regarding our favorite second party developer. Or at least, until now.

Croik has however, just received her import copy of Last Window, so you can expect updates to 'WHAT A?!', our Hotel Dusk subsection as she gets around to it.

I'm really really excited about this. We're going to have to plan something big for this rise from the ashes release.

Oh, and a big shout out to all the viewers who emailed this info as well.

Ghost Trick interview

Just found a interview between Shu Takumi and Joystiq. In it, he talks about pitching the game to Capcom, making the puzzles for Ghost Trick and if the game will be accepted by the Western audience. Enjoy.

Also, in random news, The game is getting it's own juice. Yup, a real fruit juice. So if you live in Japan and near a "Juicer Bar", then why not pick one up and show your support for the game. Juicer Bar website :godot:

Ghost Trick not the Best Handheld Game of E3 2010

Update 7.7: Ghost Trick (and SS2) lost to God of War: Ghost of Sparta.

Each year, after the E3, the Game Critics Awards give some... awards for the best games, consoles and moments of the past E3. And guess what? Shu Takumi's new game, Ghost Trick, has indeed been nominated for the Best Handheld Game (the only category, unfortunately), along with the following games:

Quote:
- Ghost Trick (Capcom for Nintendo DS)
- God of War: Ghost of Sparta (Ready at Dawn/Sony Santa Monica for PSP) *the winner*
- Okamiden (Capcom for Nintendo DS)
- SuperScribblenauts (5TH Cell/WBIE for Nintendo DS)
- Valkyria Chronicles 2 (Sega for PSP)

Needless to say, GT has got some serious opponents! The results will be revealed on July, the 6th... that is, next Tuesday!

Ghost Trick's second week in Japan + new videos and pics

Update (07.01): Added Japanese weekly chart for GT's second week.

Update (06.25): Found two new videos, courtesy of GameTrailers!

Image

Ghost Trick was released less than a week ago in Japan, and we already know how many copies of the game were sold. The following figures concern week 24 (June the 14th - 20th). Which means, the game had only been released for a few days when this chart was made.

Quote:
2) Ghost Trick : Phantom Detective (24 000)

This may explain why the game sold only '24 000' copies, but it except Mario, it's not much different from the other game of this chart. Anyway, this isn't really surprising, as Ghost Trick is a brand new franchise (as opposed to the Ace Attorney series, already quite famous). Besides, the game doesn't really cater to the mainstream, so... Anyway, 2 days really aren't enough to say whether a game sold well or not.

The rest of the top 10 :

Quote:
1) Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Nintendo (WII) 53 000
2) Ghost Trick : Phantom Detective - Capcom (NDS) 24 000
3) Art Academy - Nintendo (NDS) 21 000
4) Xenoblade - Nintendo (WII) 21 000
5) GTA IV : Episodes from Liberty City - Rockstar Games (PS3) 21 000
6) Tamagotchi no Pichi pichi... Bandai Namco NDS 17 000
7) PES 2010 World Cup - Konami (PS3) 16 000
8) Friend Collection - Nintendo (NDS) 14 000
9) PES 2010 : Blue Samurai Challenge - Konami (PSP) 13 000
10) Hakuoki : Junsouroku - Idea Factory (PS3) 13 000

***

Ghost Trick's sold 20.000 copies for its second week:

Quote:
1) Monster Hunter Frontier Online - Capcom (360) 93 000
2) Love Plus + - Konami (NDS) 84 000
3) Atelier Totori : Alchemist of Arland 2 - Gust (PS3) 54 000
4) Tokimeki Memorial : Girl's Side 3rd Story - Konami (NDS) 52 000
5) Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Nintendo (WII) 42 000
6) Hatsune Miku : Project Diva - Sega (PSP) 29 000
7) White Album: Tsuzurareru... - Aqua Plus (PS3) 26 000
8) Starry Sky : In Spring - Asgard (PSP) 22 000
9) Ghost Trick - Capcom (NDS) 20 000
10) Art Academy - Nintendo (NDS) 20 000

***

What's more, we also get two new videos and a bunch of new pictures, courtesy of Nintendo! You'll find them all at Nintendo's E3 official website.

I know, those are a week old, but I don't remember seeing a thread about those, so I decided to include them in this one.

***

And GameTrailer posted two new trailers for the game (actually, there's only one trailer, the second video is a TV spot), though both are in Japanese. You'll find them here and there :)

Ace Attorney on the 3DS?

Image

Chalk this up to obligatory non-commitiality. But thanks to GoNintendo, I was pointed to this article by Videogamer.com. In it they interview Shu Takumi at E3 about Ace Attorney and the 3DS.

Shu Takumi wrote:
"It's a little bit difficult to say, We just saw it here; we're not sure what we can do with [the technology] yet. But certainly if the opportunity presented itself and we could make it, then it might be a really good chance for us to use that technology. But we'll have to wait and see what the future brings."

Yeah, we're not going to get any concrete info on GS5 until Capcom's ready to make an announcement. Personally, and I do mean my own personal thoughts, that's not happening until Ghost Trick is done being promoted.

But, it's still nice to hear that they're at least considering the new hardware for the future of the series. But, honestly, how would that work? The sprites are all 2D. There's not a lot outside of evidence that could use depth of field. But I'm sure that we'll be pleasantly surprised regardless.
