 Lance is rich but he still spends beyond his means, and in doing so he racked up debts with Viola Cadaverini of Tender Lender.  Rather than ask his dad for the money he set up a kidnapping plot with himself as the victim, intending to get his dad to pay his ransom.  He got his tutor, Oliver, and his "girlfriend" Lauren to join him, but just when it seemed their plan had worked Oliver betrayed them, and Lance panicked and shot him.  In desperation he tried to pin the blame on Lauren, and eventually had to go running back to his father for help anyway.

 10 years ago Oliver worked as Amano's secretary at Amano Inc, but was caught and arrested for smuggling illegal goods.  He was in jail for years and was finally released, and in order to keep an eye on his daughter Lauren he came to work for Amano again.  When he heard that Lance was planning a fake kidnapping he joined just to keep an eye on them, and ultimately tried to stop Lance, but in the process was killed.

Background: Lauren grew up around the Amano household, as her father worked for them.

 When Lance fell into debt Lauren agreed to help him stage a fake kidnapping scheme.  However, the scheme went sour, and in the end Lance tricked her into thinking she had shot fellow conspirator, Oliver.  What Lauren didn't know was that Oliver was really her biological father.
